Apprenticeship Programmes

The apprenticeship levy is a tax on UK employers that pay more than £3 million in annual wage bills. The levy is 0.5% of the annual wage bill, and it is paid to the government. Employers can use the levy to fund apprenticeships for their employees.

Here are some of the benefits that non-levy paying companies in England and Wales can receive from the apprenticeship levy:

  • Access to government funding: Non-levy paying companies can access government funding for apprenticeships through the levy transfer scheme. This scheme allows levy-paying companies to transfer up to 25% of their unused levy funds to non-levy paying companies.

  • Reduced training costs: Non-levy paying companies can also benefit from reduced training costs through the co-investment scheme. This scheme allows non-levy paying companies to pay just 5% towards the cost of training and assessing an apprentice. The government will pay the rest up to the funding band maximum.

  • Access to a wider pool of talent: Apprenticeships can help non-levy paying companies to access a wider pool of talent. This is because apprenticeships are open to people of all ages, backgrounds, and qualifications.

  • Improved productivity: Apprenticeships can help non-levy paying companies to improve productivity. This is because apprentices are trained on the job, which means that they can start contributing to the business straight away.

  • Reduced staff turnover: Apprenticeships can help non-levy paying companies to reduce staff turnover. This is because apprentices are more likely to stay with their employer after they have completed their apprenticeship.

  • Improved employee morale: Apprenticeships can help non-levy paying companies to improve employee morale. This is because apprentices are often enthusiastic and motivated, which can create a more positive and productive work environment.

  • Increased competitiveness: Apprenticeships can help non-levy paying companies to increase competitiveness. This is because apprentices are trained in the latest skills and knowledge, which can help businesses to stay ahead of the competition.
